Schools 'to cause traffic chaos'
Traffic jam
A new one-way system is being planned to solve any problems
A St Sampsons deputy has warned the siting of two new schools will cause major traffic problems.

The schools are to be built at Les Nicolles vinery, which has been bought by the Board of Administration for 1.7m.

But Deputy Peter Bougourd says improvements needed to local roads will add millions to the price tag.

Residents of the area, particularly those in Baubigny and Les Effards, have been worried by plans for the development at the site.

Dismissed claims

Deputy Bougourd dismissed claims from the president of the Education Council that problems would be confined to one hour each morning and evening.

He said residents would have to cope with the planned one-way system 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

He believes the changes and improvements to the road system, which will stretch as far as Route Militaire, will add between 2m and 3m to the cost of the project.

He maintains the Belle Greve vinery would have been more suitable for the new development.
