Leylandii laws still on course
Leylandii
The States agreed to introduce Leylandii legislation four years ago
Laws to stop homeowners in Jersey maliciously growing plants which block daylight from their neighbours' homes could soon be in force.

It has been four years since the States agreed to introduce the measures.

But no formal legislation has yet been put in place.

In 1999, Deputy Terry Le Main took the proposition to the States to stop the deliberate planting of Leylandii and other tall hedges.

Preparing laws

The Assembly agreed and the then Planning and Environment Committee was charged with preparing the laws.

In January this year, the planning department invited people with views on the subject to write to them.

The draft law is now completed and ready to go out for public consultation.

Deputy Le Main said he expected it to receive States approval within the next six months.
