Head start for pupils
Students at Jersey's Le Rocquier School are being encouraged to develop their leadership skills by being given new head student and prefect roles.

Headteacher Richard Rolfe has introduced the roles of head girl, head boy, three deputies and 11 prefects in order to help improve the school environment.

The move follows a letter from 16 pupils to Mr Rolfe, saying why they wanted to be prefects.

Following an interview, 11 were chosen to support the new Head Girl, Zoe Collins and the new Head Boy Tom Le Sauteur and their three deputies.

Mr Rolfe says he wants them to each take on a specific role like leading the school in the international forum, or representing the student council.

During the year they will receive training and attend official functions.

He hopes the head students and prefects can develop their leadership skills and form a better link between pupils and staff.
