Parents in Jersey are being warned they may have to pay compensation or even face prosecution if their children cause damage or intimidation during Halloween. The number of police officers in known trouble spots will be increased on 31 October and shopkeepers are being asked not to sell eggs or flour to children.
The police are continuing their 2002 campaign to make sure Halloween pranks do not involve intimidation.
A few years ago, elderly residents reported problems with youths throwing eggs at their houses.
This year the police, Youth Service and retailers have teamed up to make sure Halloween passes without further incidents.
Parents are being advised to accompany their children if they go trick or treating.
Community police officers have been explaining to school children that Halloween pranks can be interpreted as intimidation by some people.
