A Sark donkey is champing at the bit to get into the Guinness Book of Records. At 60-years-old, Lively Laddie may be the oldest donkey in the world, and he has a pedigree which links him to one of Britain's top jockeys.
Born six decades ago in 1943, Lively Laddie has led an exciting life.
His mother was rescued from a train which crashed while taking her to be slaughtered.
Good health
At one time he was ridden by a young Bob Champion before the jockey hit the big time.
Lively Laddie pursued his racing career on Blackpool Sands and it was his new owners, the Konig family, who brought him to Guernsey 15 years ago.
Laddie was just settling in as a Guernsey donkey when the Konigs moved to Sark in 1997.
Laddie still gets a kick out of life and enjoys good health at the grand old age of 60.
Now his owner Susie Konig is hoping to get him officially recognised as the world's oldest donkey.
But there's no time to lose - the second oldest donkey - who lives in Mexico - is hot on his heels.
