Pay mobiles may work outside island
Mobile phone sending text messaging
Pay-as-you-go customers are restricted outside the island
Users of pay-as-you-go mobile phones in Jersey may soon be able to use them in the UK.

Jersey Telecom says it hopes at least one network in the UK will work for pre-paid Jersey phones from the end of November.

The main disadvantage to pay-as-you-go in Jersey is that customers are restricted.

They can only be used in Jersey, and unlike the other types of package offered by Jersey Telecom, they do not work when out of the island.

Other mobile networks allow users to travel abroad and use their mobiles, regardless of whether they are pay-as-you-go or standard packages.

Jersey Telecom now hopes to offer the service to pre-paid mobile users towards the end of November.
