Police patrol synagogue area
Graffiti on the synagogue walls
The anti-Jewish slogans sprayed on the walls have been condemned
Police are to patrol the neighbourhood near Jersey's synagogue round-the-clock after it was attacked by vandals.

Officers have been doing house-to-house inquiries and they have been analysing samples of the red paint used.

In the States, Jersey's Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, condemned the spraying of anti-Jewish slogans on the walls of the synagogue in St Brelade.

Steve Regal, president of Jersey's Jewish congregation spoke earlier of his and other people's shock at the desecration.

He said: "It's amazing. I was just looking at the passers-by. The revulsion on just about everybody's face when they saw what had happened.

"It was universal. It was obvious they couldn't understand what had happened.

"And interestingly, even the police officers, who normally have a detached air of professionalism, one could tell they were affected by it."

Police are also looking for someone seen running from the site in the early hours of Sunday morning.
