Spare exam papers were obtained from other schools |
GCSE students at a Jersey school faced a long wait to start their exam because their Geography papers got lost in the post and ended up at a school in Gibraltar. About 31 Hautlieu School students were expecting to take their Geography GCSE exam on Monday morning.
But the papers did not arrive.
Other schools in the island rallied round to supply Hautlieu with the papers.
They informed us they'd tracked the actual post all the way to Gibraltar Mike Sheldrake, exam co-ordinator |
"By Monday morning, at 0900, they were not with us so we contacted the board and they told us they'd sent them," said Mike Sheldrake, who co-ordinates Hautlieu's exams.
"We therefore contacted the company who were posting them to us.
"They informed us they'd tracked the actual post all the way to Gibraltar and sent them to a school there."
The school picked up 15 spare papers from other schools and got half the group started on the exam an hour and a half late.
Special consideration
The papers could not be photocopied because the questions featured maps and photos.
When the official exam was over used papers were collected from Victoria College and the other pupils started their exam.
Mr Sheldrake said the school has applied for special consideration.
"They will look at the results on this particular paper," said Mr Sheldrake.
"And if they are significantly worse than how students have done in their coursework and other papers they do then they will mark them accordingly."
He said the students took the delay in good spirits.
