Explosives have been thrown at a US consulate in southern Turkey. Two small bombs or hand grenades were thrown at the American consulate in Adana, one of which exploded.
There have been many threats against US interests in Turkey, but this is the first incident for some time.
The explosives, either small homemade bombs or hand grenades, were hurled at the consulate, apparently by a man waiting in an immigration queue.
One exploded causing some damage to a wall and shattering windows.
Another was defused by the police.
A thirty-five year old man has been arrested and has, according to some reports, admitted to throwing the devices at the consulate.
Since the build-up to the war against Iraq, anti-American feeling increased sharply across Turkey.
Most were strongly opposed to the war.

The consulate existed largely to serve the interests of the large number of US personnel who once worked at the nearby Incirlik air base. The number of service men and women has fallen sharply after the operation of the no-fly zone over northern Iraq was halted at the end of the war.
