Skate park petition launched

Children are not interested in football say supporters
Honorary Police in the Jersey parish of St Brelade are working on a project to improve facilities for young people.

Local residents and businesses are being asked to sign a petition to support the creation of a skate park for youngsters in the area.

Chris Le Mottee, who has organised the petition, says her teenage sons need somewhere to skate after being told not to use the road outside their house.

She said: "Skateboarding, in-line skating and BMX is all the kids do and if you talk to the children round here, that's what they want.

"There are not a lot that are interested in football nowadays."

The Honorary Police are now leading efforts to find a suitable site.

Residents and businesses in St Brelade have long complained about groups of young people - apparently with nowhere to go - causing trouble and damaging property.

The Honorary Police will also work out how much the scheme will cost and gauge the strength of support for the project.

The idea was discussed at a parish meeting last week and organisers of the petition say it was well received by those present.
