Euthanasia debate angers deputy
A Guernsey deputy has accused the leading States' committee of failing islanders on the issue of doctor-assisted-death.

Deputy Pat Mellor has said she is appalled Advisory and Finance has still not set up a working party on euthanasia six months after the States instructed the committee to carry out a full investigation.

The committee was instructed to investigate the issue and report back to the House at the "earliest opportunity".

'Delaying tactics'

In June 2002, the States voted by a majority of 38 to 17 in favour of an "investigation" into the issue after a Requete brought by Deputy Mellor.

A working party was then suggested in September 2002.

Deputy Mellor raised the issue in the House again on Wednesday when she asked the President of Advisory and Finance, Deputy Laurie Morgan, for a progress report.

She said: "The whole matter smacks of delaying tactics."

Deputy Laurie Morgan of Advisory and Finance has said a working party is due to start on the subject in April or May.
