English teachers needed in Jersey
Alexandra Blake teaching students

Jersey needs more people to teach English to foreign workers, according to a charity on the island.

ACET is promoting cross-culture understanding, but says many people among the island's population speak poor English.

Alexandra Blake, who teaches English on the ACET community project, says large numbers of people are moving to the island to work who speak little or no English.

She says there needs to be more teachers to cope with demand.

"The main reason for coming over to Jersey, other than to earn some money, is to learn English.

"With such a large Portuguese population, along with the increase in the numbers of Polish, Thais and Filipinos who are coming over, you could really expand this project."
