The Bull report was critical of the island's childcare services |
Jersey Deputy Roy Le Herissier has said he is unhappy with what he called "the level of accountability" being shown by three States committees following a critical report on childcare services. But the island's Health President said Jersey's government is already dealing with the issues raised at a speed unheard of by States standards.
The report was written by Kathie Bull from the UK's Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) and dealt with various aspects of care and education of children on the island.
Her report criticised the quality of care for children with behaviour problems.
Deputy Roy Le Herissier asked the Health President, Senator Stuart Syvret, questions in the States following the report.
Improve accountability
But Deputy Le Herissier said he was still concerned about who is actually responsible for failings in the system.
He wants mechanisms in place to ensure the effectiveness of services.
In a frank exchange between the two politicians Senator Syvret rejected some of the arguments about who is responsible.
He said the issues surrounding the Kathie Bull report are extremely complex but the officials involved from the three committees concerned - Home Affairs, Health and Education, Sport and Culture - are now working together.
Senator Syvret said that reforming the States will improve accountability and a detailed response to the report will come out in the next few months.
