The celebrity chef will preside over a panel of local gourmets |
Guernsey tourism chiefs have confirmed that it will cost island taxpayers about 25,000 to bring one of the UK's top chef's to the island for a major new culinary festival, The Experience. Antony Worrall Thompson has been asked by the tourist board to judge the food contest, which gets under way at the end of March.
Jon Taylor, one of the co-ordinators of the competition, said it would be money well spent.
"Having someone like Antony Worrall Thompson, who presents the BBC's Food and Drink programme and is a qualified gourmet, means we will get exposure through the national media, which will only benefit the island," said Mr Taylor.
"If you equate the cost of bringing someone like Antony Worrall Thompson over with what we would have to spend on advertising, 25,000 goes a long way for Antony Worrall Thompson and wouldn't necessarily go as far with a marketing budget."
Mr Worrall Thompson will preside over a panel of local gourmets at the competition which runs until the end of April.
