Business leaders in Guernsey have been given an insight into the future of telecommunications across the bailiwick.

The island's economy relies on a proper infrastructure, to ensure future growth.

Some of Guernsey's most influential businessmen attended a key address by Cable & Wirelesses Regional Chief Executive, Robert Lerwill at the Institute of Directors dinner on Thursday night.

Mr Lerwill pledged the company's continued commitment to providing services across the bailiwick.

Bright future

The company currently provides the majority of the island's telecommunications services.

From Saturday licenses will be issued to companies wanting to operate the new 2G and 3G mobile services.

Mr Lerwill told directors that competition is good, stimulates demand, encourages innovation and promotes efficiency.

He said he believed bailiwick businesses had a bright future.
