The new library will cost 200,000
Alderney residents are closing in on their target to raise funds for a new library on the island.

The new building will cost 200,000, and so far islanders have raised 152,000.

Residents hope to have the new facility up and running by the end of the year.

Fund-raising for the new building, in the grounds of the Island Hall, has involved letters of appeal, jumble sales and even selling roof tiles.

The tiles are on sale for 1 each, and although they cannot be named, a record of donations will be kept.

A book listing the contributors will have pride of place in the new building.
