Rush hour bus services cut
Jersey bus
The number of rush hour buses was increased to meet demand
The axing of some extra bus routes in Jersey has come as a surprise to the president of environment and public services.

Deputy Maurice Dubras said bus operators Connex did not tell the department, or bus users, that the routes along First Tower during rush hour were to be stopped.

When Connex first took over the bus service in Jersey, extra buses were put on some routes at peak times to meet demand.

But some passengers were unable to get onto a bus on Monday morning, because they were told the extra buses had been cut.

On-going review

Connex has issued a press statement saying the cuts are part of an on-going review of its services.

It claims there is insufficient demand for the extra buses.

But Mr Dubras said the news came as a surprise to him and his department, which is responsible for licensing the island's bus services.

He said the failure to notify the department was probably an oversight on the company's part, which he hoped would be rectified in the future.
