Island considers closer links with France
French flags
French towns will compete in the "Jumelage"
Jersey's Grouville Port Bail Association is to discuss how to increase the island's links with France.

The organisation is planning events with the towns twinned with Jersey parishes.

It is hoped members of the Association will be visiting host families in France this summer, with a return visit planned for September.

The group's annual general meeting is taking place on Monday evening at Grouville Parish Hall and is open to the public.

Events planned

Preparations are being made for the "Jumelage" next year, which is a series of events usually including It's A Knockout-type competitions.

This will feature at least seven Jersey parishes and their twin French towns playing alongside each other.

Fund-raising events will take place this year including entrainment and boule competitions in Gorey on 10 May.

Vice-president of the Port Bail Association, Tom Le Quesne, said the group hopes the planned ferry links between Jersey, Port Bail and Carteret will go ahead this year.
