| Monday, 4 November, 2002, 12:41 GMT In pictures: Election celebrations in Turkey With most of the votes counted in Turkey's general election, the Islamist based newly-founded AK Party (Justice and Development) appears to have won a landslide victory, sweeping the ruling coalition from power. ![]() AK leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan told cheering supporters their victory was on behalf of the Turkish people ![]() Mr Erdogan said his party would adhere to the secular principles of the country's constitution ![]() Crowds gathered outside the headquarters of the AK Party on news of their victory ![]() Inside the party's offices, members celebrated the overall majority the party looks set to have in parliament ![]() The frail outgoing Prime Minister, Bulent Ecevit, conceded defeat - his party won only 1% of the vote ![]() But Mr Erdogan faces legal hurdles which block him from taking over from Mr Ecevit ![]() The AK's success will give Turkey its first non-coalition government for many years |
