President Schuster, who is 68, had already been taken ill with sunstroke suffered while attending Sunday Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II in Krakow in Poland. According to a Slovak government spokesman Jan Fuelle, the president was taken to hospital on Thursday evening after his condition deteriorated. The spokesman said Mr Schuster was not in a critical state.
