 | | Monday, 19 November, 2001, 23:42 GMT Russian plane crashes outside Moscow  Russia has a poor air safety record A Russian passenger plane has crashed in northeast Russia, killing all 27 people on board. The Ilyushin-18 was travelling from Khatanga in Siberia to Moscow's Domodedovo airport when it dropped off radar screens shortly before 2130 local time (1830 GMT), the Interfax news agency quoted the Russian Emergencies Ministry as saying.
The pilots had not signalled any problems, according to the ministry. A rescue team is reported to be at the scene. They have found wreckage in the woods. The Ilyushin IL-18 is a four-propeller aircraft able to seat around 100 passengers. According to the Aviation Safety Network, an independent group that keeps data on air disasters, the model has been in 79 crashes since 1960.
