The main opposition party in Macedonia has accused the governing Social Democratic Alliance, of trying to destabilise the country.

The accusation -- made by the centre-right VMRO-DPMNE -- follows an explosion early on Monday in which a car belonging to a former opposition deputy, Alexander Florovski, was destroyed.

An opposition spokesman said the Social Democrats were trying to destabilise Macedonia because they were afraid of losing parliamentary elections due in October.

The Social Democrats have not yet responded to the accusation.
