The first Swedish memorial to a diplomat who saved thousands of Jewish lives in World War II has been unveiled in Stockholm by the Swedish King, Carl Gustaf.

Raoul Wallenberg distributed Swedish passports to Hungarian Jews in the 1940s so that they could escape deportation to Nazi death camps.

His heroism has been commemorated by an abstract sculpture, which features 12 figures of dark bronze.

Nearby is a bronze replica of Mr Wallenberg's signature, as it appeared on the passports he signed.

More than 30 statues and memorials to the Swedish diplomat exist elsewhere in the world.
