Mr Milosevic is wanted on Kosovo war crimes charges

Now the former president gets all the daily papers in his Belgrade jail cell and this morning they do not make for encouraging reading for him.

The tabloid Blic has a cartoon of Carla Del Ponte - the tribunal's chief prosecutor - standing outside The Hague's own prison in the Netherlands under a sign saying "Welcome".

And Politika - which was once the official voice of Mr Milosevic's Socialist Party - gloats that his cell there is already being prepared.

War crimes

Vecernje Novosti asked the question: "Will Mira Markovic - Mr Milosevic's wife - be able to mobilise any kind of uprising to stop the extradition?"

There seems, though, little chance of that, not least because, as never before, the Serbian press is full of stories about war crimes.

This week in Glas - a tabloid newspaper - it is reported that four new mass graves have been discovered - not in Kosovo but in Serbia itself.

And under the headline "Serbia's Archipelago of Graves", the news magazine Vreme says that there is frightening proof of what it calls a systematic cover-up of crimes.

And it says the truth is only now emerging because of one or two individuals, who it says, felt shame stronger than fear.

Finally, under the headline "Returning to God" Blic reports that "Mr Milosevic, at his own request, has been visited in his cell by a senior Orthodox cleric."

This is Metropolitan Amfilohije, who was a notorious hard-line nationalist.
