| Tuesday, 22 May, 2001, 20:56 GMT 21:56 UK French 'Spiderman' scales oil HQ ![]() Up, up and away: Robert embarks on his long climb A "Spiderman" climber has scaled one of the tallest office blocks in France using only his bare hands. Alain Robert pulled off the stunt at the headquarters of oil giant TotalFinaElf in the La Defense district of Paris. He was apprehended by police when he reached the top after a 90-minute climb, for climbing without permission. But no charges were brought - and he says the officers offered him orange juice.
"It's long and quite difficult at the end," Robert told reporters. "It was a little more difficult than I'd expected because of the wind, because of the sun. "At the beginning it was a little wet because of the window cleaners." Dozens of workers from the building joined the crowd of spectators, and cheered Mr Robert as he neared the top. His previous conquests include the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, and the Empire State Building in New York. |
