UN observers kidnapped in Georgia

United Nations officials in Georgia say two members of their observer mission were kidnapped on Sunday.

The officials described them as a Polish and a Greek national and said they were kidnapped near the village of Lata in the Kodor Gorge.

No other details were immediately available.

Members of the UN mission were kidnapped in the Kodor gorge in 1998 and 1999.

On both occasions they were released unharmed and without pre-conditions.

The UN observers are helping to oversee the ceasefire between Georgia and its breakaway region of Abkhazia.
