The ears are expected to fetch up to $2,000 (�1,400) for two pairs but the mould is listed at up to $20,000 (�14,000).

The most valuable Star Trek lot is a plaster life mask of William Shatner as Captain Kirk.

The mask, described as "Captain Kirk, frozen in time, and exactly in his prime" in the auction catalogue, is listed at an estimated sale price of $6,000 (�4,000).

The catalogue adds: "Shatner put up with a lot in sitting for the mask, but he did so (even suffering through the straws up his nose) because this way he could avoid being called in for the various special make-up enhancements necessary for the multitude of physical modifications the writers had in mind for him."

The auction includes original scripts from the first two Star Trek movies as well as signed posters and other make-up prosthetics.

The Star Trek lots are being offered by the heirs of Fred Phillips, the sole makeup artist on the original series and the first two movies.

Also for auction, and the most valuable listed lot, is one of the two original Energizer bunnies.

Captain Kirk: William Shatner's occasional face mask

The rabbits were used to advertise batteries on television and have become one of the most potent advertising symbols of the 20th century.

The rabbit is expected to fetch up to $60,000 (�42,000).

A diary belonging to Errol Flynn, and written during his participation in the Spanish Civil War, is also eagerly anticipated.

The 74-page hand-written journal is expected to fetch up to $10,000.

The sale features hand-written and typed lyrics for the album Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon, written six months before his first solo record was released.

The lyrics are inscribed to Lennon's therapist, Dr. Arthur Janov, creator of "primal scream" therapy, and are listed at more than $20,000 (�14,000).
