Hotdog spokeswoman

After receiving three complaints from members of the public, who said they found the ad "sexist" and "offensive", the ASA ruled that the ad was "likely to cause serious or widespread offence".

Advertising the film magazine Hotdog, the ad appeared in The Guardian newspaper and computer magazine PC Pro, and has since been pulled.

'Tame'

Diaz, star of There's Something about Mary and A Life Less Ordinary, featured on the front cover of Hotdog's August 2000 issue.

She was pictured next to the caption: "Cameron 'The Pleasure's All Mine' Diaz Interview and Poster".

A Hotdog magazine spokeswoman told BBC News Online the ad was "tame and funny".

"Diaz is fully clothed, and wearing knickers underneath her shorts. The shot is cheeky and innocent.

"We're not trying to offend anyone. If you look at most men's magazines, they look like soft porn," she said.

The Guardian told the ASA that advertisers had submitted the copy late so it was not properly checked for suitability.

The ASA said: "The Guardian stated had they seen the advertisement, they would not have published it on the newspaper's front page.
