| Sunday, 24 September, 2000, 11:22 GMT 12:22 UK All over for Liam and Patsy ![]() Gallagher and Kensit's relationship was always stormy The tempestuous three-year marriage between Oasis star Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit is finally over after the couple were granted a divorce. A low key decree nisi was issued at the London Divorce Court on Friday, ending a relationship which once made the cover of Vanity Fair as the public face of Cool Britannia, but was punctuated by constant rowing. Kensit, 32, cited Gallagher for unreasonable behaviour in the divorce proceedings and the volatile rock star did not contest the judgement. Neither attended the divorce hearing and District Justice Maple accepted that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.
The actress spent some time in the Priory Clinic in May saying she was "emotionally drained" by their stormy marriage. Twice divorced Kensit met Gallagher in 1994 when Oasis were beginning their rise to stardom. They married in secret at Westminster Registry Office in April 1997 and had a son Lennon, named after John Lennon, in September 1999. 'Sham' marriage Their public rows began only a year after they were married when an allegedly drunken Gallagher ordered Kensit and her seven-year-old son by Simple Minds' Jim Kerr out of their family home in Primrose Hill, north London.
That home was sold and Kensit was seen without her wedding ring by the time the couple announced their marriage was over in July this year. Neither, Gallagher, who was in Ireland at his grandmother's funeral, nor Kensit were available for comment following Friday's divorce, but both have expressed little regret in the past at their break up of their marriage. Kensit described the marriage as a "sham" and added: "It's impossible for me to go on any longer. I did my best and I got absolutely no help in return. It's over. I'm actually relieved.'' Gallagher, who will continue to have access to Lennon, commented: "Maybe I was too young but I don't think I'll be marrying again. I'm just trying to get on with my life and be a good dad. We're still talking though." Gallagher is now an item with All Saints star Nicole Appleton. This year has been a particularly bad one for Oasis. Both of the Gallagher brothers have announced the end of their marriages, their album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants was poorly received and they were forced to abandon a concert in Switzerland. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
