| Monday, 11 September, 2000, 06:31 GMT 07:31 UK Gardeners' Question Time goes nude ![]() Gardeners' Question Time presenters Bob Flowerdew, Anne Swithinbank and Roy Lancaster A trio of BBC Radio 4 presenters got ready to field some "bare-faced" gardening questions at the annual British Naturism meeting. The presenters were invited to broadcast their half hour show from the AGM of the Central Council of British Naturism in Orpington, south London on Sunday. Gardeners' Question Time presenters Bob Flowerdew, Anne Swithinbank and Roy Lancaster posed semi-naked for publicity shots ahead of their popular afternoon radio programme. The trio responded to questions on a variety of gardening topics from the group of 250 assembled naturists, all but 10 of whom were naked. Naturists: 'Keen gardeners' Programme producer Trevor Taylor said Gardeners' Question Time had been broadcast from a ferry and even a prison but this was by far the most unusual venue. He added: "No one was sure what to expect but once we got there and talked to the people everybody relaxed and enjoyed the programme and there were no problems. "There was never really any debate about doing the programme - it would have been a bit more difficult on the television though. "Eric Robson, the panel chairman, often has difficulty identifying whether a questioner is a male or a female in some of the poorly lit church halls we go to. But he said there were no such problems this time." The long-running radio show first broadcast from the annual naturists' meeting in 1998, after a listener pointed out that the foundation had many keen gardeners. Gardeners' Question Time goes out every Sunday at 1500 BST. |
