The footballer, whose late goal secured England's 1-1 draw with France on Saturday, has been approached to appear in The 51st State, which starts filming in Liverpool later this month. It stars Jackson as a drug dealer who travels to Liverpool to strike his last big deal for he retires - but things go wrong as he is sucked into the city's club scene.
The film also stars Robert Carlyle, of The Full Monty and Trainspotting fame. It is not clear whether Owen, who lives in north Wales, is being offered a speaking part or a cameo role. Owen has already taken a television part, playing himself in BBC children's drama Hero To Zero, and has appeared in crisp commercials. His former England strike partner, Alan Shearer, took a part two years ago in The Match, alongside Richard E Grant and Max Beesley. Former Welsh international Vinnie Jones is carving out a film career for himself in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and the recently-released Snatch, while Frenchman Eric Cantona has appeared in three films since retiring from Manchester United. | See also: Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
