Rock group Bon Jovi performed in front of thousands of their fans at Gateshead as part of the US band's European tour.

The band took their tour to the north-east of England after playing two sell-out shows at Wembley over the weekend.

Sunday's performance was the last concert under Wembley Stadium's famous twin towers before it is demolished.

The UK leg of the tour ends in Stoke-on-Trent on Thursday.

Street's Vinny to make 'explosive' exit

Coronation Street actor James Gaddas is set to leave his role as builder Vinny Sorrell, Granada has confirmed.

Gaddas, 40, a former Shakespearean actor who has also appeared in Medics, Grafters, The Bill and Peak Practice, joined the soap 15 months ago.

He is leaving in October to spend more time with wife Deborah and four-month-old daughter Cate Olivia.

Gaddas, who plays the boyfriend of Rovers Return landlady Natalie Barnes, played by Denise Welch, promises his exit will be "very explosive".

Fraser considers role with Caine

Mummy star Brendan Fraser is in talks to co-star with Oscar-winner Sir Michael Caine in a remake of The Quiet American - based on the Graham Greene thriller.

The film is slated to begin shooting in Vietnam and Australia in January - following Fraser's run on the West End stage in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

The remake will be directed by Philip Noyce of The Bone Collector fame, from a new script by Dangerous Liaisons playwright Christopher Hampton.

Grammer turns 'legal rat' on the net

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer is to produce an animated series on the Net about a New York lawyer-turned-rat.

Gary the Rat will follow the life of a high powered Manhattan lawyer who wakes up one day as a 6ft rat and finds his clients prefer him.

"The goal is to make the episodes as funny as we can," said Grammer who will voice the Rat in the internet series.

If successful, the show - which debuts in the autumn - may become a TV series.

Stereophonics lead Kerrang nominations

Heavy metal rock magazine Kerrang has announced the nominations for its annual awards ceremony.

The Stereophonics lead the nominations for both Best British Live Act and Best British Band alongside groups such as Muse, Iron Maiden and Pitchshifter.

Kerrang's key Best Album award is being fought for by Slipknot, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Korn and Pitchshifter.

The awards will be announced in a ceremony on 29 August.

Turner weds Bovey in low-key ceremony

TV presenter Anthea Turner married her fianc� Grant Bovey on Wednesday in a private ceremony conducted in relative secrecy.

The couple exchanged vows at Guildford register office, Surrey after keeping the time and location a closely-guarded secret from the press.

They will celebrate their marriage at their country home in nearby Dunsfold, Surrey, on Saturday.

As with past celebrity weddings, photographic rights have been secured by OK! magazine.

Both Turner and Bovey have been married before - Turner to former Radio 1 DJ Peter Powell and Bovey to ex-wife Della, with whom he has three children.
