A spokeswoman for the former Led Zeppelin star would not give details of his back problems, but all his gigs up to 30 August in Houston have been cancelled. Page, 56, and the Crowes will try to reschedule many of the concerts before the tour's next leg starts next month. The tour began on Saturday night in Albuquerque in New Mexico. The cancellations affect shows starting on Tuesday night in Southern California.
Although billed as Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes, the concerts were offering up a rich selection of Led Zeppelin classics, such as Celebration Day and Custard Pie. Black Crowes hits and a few blues tracks are also included. A double live album, Live at the Greek, was recently released, first via the internet and then through traditional retail outlets. Cult status Led Zeppelin, made up of Page, Robert Plant, and John Bohham and Paul Jones, disbanded three months after the sudden death of Bonham in September 1980. In their 12 years together they were credited with establishing the heavy metal sound. Since then, Led Zeppelin's music, and that of its former members, have retained their appeal for both new and die-hard rock fans.
They released the album, Walking Into Clarksdale and went on tour. More recently, Led Zeppelin's cult status has come to the forefront again. Four songs from the legendary group will feature on the soundtrack to a movie for the first time. The surviving members of the group have given their permission for their tracks to be used on Almost Famous. Directed by Cameron Crowe, it is a semi-autobiographical tale about a young rock journalist sent to cover a tour by a famous band. The film stars Jason Lee and Philip Seymour Hoffman. |
