Hollywood actor Michael Douglas and his fianc�e Catherine Zeta Jones are celebrating the birth of their first child.

Dylan Michael Douglas was born at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Beverly Hills, weighing 7lb 7oz at 0100 GMT on Wednesday.

Zeta Jones' publicist, Cece York, said the Welsh actress had been admitted to hospital on Tuesday.

"Everybody's doing great," she said.

Douglas also announced the birth of Baby Dylan on his official website.

A message on the site reads: "Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas are the proud parents of a seven pounds seven ounces, 21-and-a-half inches baby boy.

"Mother, baby and father are all doing very well."

Douglas, 55, revealed weeks ago that he planned to be present at the birth and "hold her hand" during labour.

Postponed

The couple's wedding had been planned for September but the date has been postponed to give the new mum time to "regain her shape" after her pregnancy.

Zeta Jones, 30, who was born in Swansea and found fame in TV series The Darling Buds of May, met Douglas at the Deauville Film Festival in 1998.

The couple's relationship hit the headlines recently when it was revealed they were planning a pre-nuptial agreement to decide how much of Douglas' �150m fortune she would get if they divorced.

Zeta Jones has become one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses, reportedly commanding �5m per film.

She is currently appearing alongside John Cusack in High Fidelity.
