| Thursday, 20 July, 2000, 13:58 GMT 14:58 UK McCartney's rock snaps for sale ![]() This Hendrix photograph is expected to fetch up to 2,500 Some of the late Linda McCartney's best rock and roll photographs, including a classic Jimi Hendrix print, are going on sale this autumn. The sale, at Christie's auction house in London, features a famous picture of Hendrix playing guitar in a New York studio with a cigarette between his lips. Also featured in the collection is a photograph of the blues guitar legend B.B. King, which "looks electric" according to Elizabeth Smith, Christie's head of photographs.
Unique access The photographer, who died last year of cancer, had unique access to musicians as the wife of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. "All these great musicians knew her and so were very relaxed having her around. Her rock 'n' roll pictures are very good", said Smith. The sale will also feature prints by other photographers of contemporary stars including David Bowie, Michael Douglas and Daniel Day-Lewis. |
