The Children In Need Rocks concert, which took place at London's Royal Albert Hall, was organised by Take That's Gary Barlow. The singer dedicated Rule The World to anyone who has lost someone close and said: "Dad, this one's for you."
All eyes were on Barlow and his former bandmate Robbie Williams, who recently made up after a long-running feud. Fans had hoped they would perform together, but they were left disappointed.
There were several one-off duets performed on the night. Cheryl Cole joined Snow Patrol to perform the band's hit, Set Fire To The Third Bar. Cole sang Martha Wainwright's lines from the original, and shared an embrace with singer Gary Lightbody.
Cole had earlier appeared in a white version of her X Factor outfit to perform her solo single, Fight For This Love.
Lily Allen was interrupted by Mark Owen while singing Who'd Have Known and segued into Take That's Shine - upon which her song is based. Allen limped on stage, after falling down some stairs prior to the show.
As well as Allen, Dizzee Rascal and Leona Lewis gave performances on the night, which raised more than 500,000 from ticket sales, which were allocated by ballot.
Muse managed to squeeze in a quick performance at the beginning of the night, before heading over to London's O2 for their own concert.
At the finale of the gig, all the artists, including Sir Paul McCartney, got on stage to sing The Beatles' Hey Jude. The show will be broadcast on BBC One next Thursday at 2000 GMT.
