Dizzee 'welcome on EastEnders'

Rascal told The Sun that he watched EastEnders "whenever I can fit it in"

Rapper and EastEnders fan Dizzee Rascal is welcome to appear on the soap, a BBC spokeswoman has said.

The offer follows the east London-born star's comments in the Sun that the long-running show "means a lot" to him.

"I could see myself on EastEnders one day," he told the paper. "They just need to offer me a role and I'm there."

The spokeswoman said it was "great to hear Dizzee is such a big fan" and that he would be "very welcome to swing by the Queen Vic if he's ever in Walford".

But the show's representative said that nothing had been confirmed, telling the BBC News website "it might never happen".

Purves appearance

Born Dylan Mills in 1985, the same year EastEnders began on BBC One, Rascal was raised in the East End district of Bow.

Famed for his distinctive rapping style, the 23-year-old won the Mercury Prize in 2003 with debut album Boy in da Corner.

Were he to appear in person as himself on the soap, he would be only the third person to do so.

Last month, London mayor Boris Johnson filmed a guest appearance on the show, to be screened later this year.

His cameo followed that of former Blue Peter host Peter Purves, who turned up in Walford in 1987 to interview Albert Square's residents.
