Brand has promised a "controversy-free festival of love" |
Russell Brand is to return as host of the MTV Video Music Awards following his controversial performance in the same role last year. In Los Angeles last September, the comedian, 34, referred to then US President George W Bush as a "retarded cowboy fella". He also mocked The Jonas Brothers for wearing chastity rings symbolising their vow not to have pre-marital sex. This year's ceremony is at New York's Radio City Music Hall on 13 September. Brand said the show would be "a controversy-free festival of love". British rockers Muse will perform at the awards in what will be their first US TV appearance, MTV said.
