Sir Alan fires latest Apprentice

Apprentice hopeful Mona Lewis said she was "ready to go" after becoming the latest candidate to be fired by Sir Alan Sugar on the BBC One reality show.

She was given the boot after her team lost a task to re-brand the seaside town of Margate.

But the 28-year-old former beauty queen said she was missing her six-year-old son and was desperate to return to him.

"I'd got to a point where I really could not go any more, it was really, really tough," she said.

Re-branding task

Wednesday night's episode saw Lewis' team choose to target the gay market in re-branding Margate, despite her objections. She thought targeting families would draw a broader audience.

Asked if Sir Alan made the right decision, Lewis said: "If I were to answer that question based on the task, then Sir Alan made the wrong decision, because I feel that Debra should have gone.

"But if it's on an individual basis, I think it was the right decision because I was ready to go."

In the boardroom, Sir Alan Sugar told Lewis he was firing her with regret, adding: "I don't see any creativity here and I have to start thinking about where you would slot into my organisation."

The Karachi-born senior business manager said she went into the competition hoping to bag the top job and make a better life for her son.

'Extra oomph'

However she added that if she had won the competition she would not have uprooted her son, Ryan, to move to London and would have chosen instead to disappoint Sir Alan.

"It's hard enough being in a country not knowing many people - once you've built a network of people, and then go to London and start again, it's not easy," she said.

Lewis said she would like Yasmina Siadatan to win, saying: "We're very similar but she's just got that extra oomph that I didn't have."
