Singer Peter Andre and model Katie Price - who met on ITV1 reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - have announced they are to split after three-and-a-half years of marriage. Here is the story of their relationship. PRE-JUNGLE Andre went into the jungle in Australia hoping for a much-needed boost to his flagging career. Jordan famously went out with pop star Dane Bowers |
At the height of his pop stardom in 1996, he had two number one UK hits, Flava and I Feel You, both taken from his number one album Natural (his "signature song", Mysterious Girl, only reached number two). But by the start of I'm A Celebrity in January 2004, he'd been without a hit for six years. Former page three girl Price, who had a two-year-old son Harvey with footballer Dwight Yorke, was as famed for her cosmetically-enhanced breasts and relationships with celebrities, including pop star Dane Bowers, as for her modelling. I'M A CELEBRITY The pair, who appeared alongside the likes of radio DJ Mike Read and ex-BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, flirted throughout the series. Andre and Price were joined in the jungle by punk rocker John Lydon |
Price appeared in a number of the show's Bushtucker trials, including some where she had to munch her way through jungle "critters". Andre tried to impress Price by doing an impression of her ex-boyfriend Gareth Gates and writing a song called Insania which was later to chart at number three in the UK. Although the pair did not kiss in the jungle, his singing - which included a rendition of Ain't No Sunshine in which he accompanied himself on the frying pan - apparently did the trick. Price later revealed they shared their first kiss in an Australian hotel room after filming finished. LOVE AND MARRIAGE The couple wore wedding-style attire to the 2006 Royal Variety Performance |
The couple's relationship flourished after the show finished and, within months, Price was pregnant with their first child, Junior, born in June 2005. They were married on 10 September 2005 in a lavish ceremony funded largely by a magazine deal with OK! at Highclere Castle, Hampshire. Bridesmaids included fellow I'm A Celebrity contestant Kerry Katona and Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding. Music was provided by X Factor finalist Rowetta Satchell, who reportedly stood in after Charlotte Church cancelled. LIFE THROUGH A LENS The first fly-on-the wall documentary following the couple was ITV1 six-parter When Jordan Met Peter - first aired on 12 November 2004 - and, bizarrely, narrated by Terry Wogan. The couple's shows have included Katie & Peter: Stateside |
Series following a similar format have included Jordan & Peter: Marriage and Mayhem, Katie & Peter: The Next Chapter and Katie & Peter: Stateside. The shows have followed the couple around in their careers as well as documenting the childhoods of Harvey, Junior and Princess Tiaamii, who was born in June 2007. Less successful forays into TV have included their 2007 ITV2 chat show Katie & Peter: Unleashed which was axed after one series. In July 2008, the couple - who also released duets album A Whole New World in 2006 - accepted damages and an apology from the News of the World over a story which painted them as bad parents. THE END? On Monday 11 May, it was announced the couple were separating. The couple finished the London Marathon in just over seven hours |
The announcement came two weeks after they finished the London Marathon together. Price was previously reported as saying the couple would begin trying for another child after the marathon. Meanwhile, morbidly obsessed fans will scour the remaining episodes of their fly-on-the-wall documentary series for signs of the relationship disintegrating. A billing for one of the final episodes promises: "Peter is touched when Katie gets a tattoo of his name. And the group go off to investigate strange goings on in Area 51."
