Moyles to defend breakfast crown

BBC Radio 1's Chris Moyles will defend his best breakfast show title after being nominated in the same category at this year's Sony Radio Academy Awards.

He will take on Radio 5 Live's breakfast team, Radio Clyde's George Bowie, Kiss 100's Rickie, Melvin and Charlie and 6 Music's Shaun Keaveny.

The nominations were led by Radio 4, with 26 nods, followed by 5 Live, with 13 nominations.

Radio 1, Radio 3 and Classic FM will compete for best station.

But there are no nominations for Radio 2's Jonathan Ross - last year's top personality on UK music radio.

And Russell Brand - winner of last year's entertainment show award - is not in the running after he quit Radio 2 following a row over prank phone calls the pair made on Brand's show.

Radio 2's Chris Evans, winner of the entertainment award in 2007, is again nominated in that category as well as for top personality on UK music radio.

The 27th Sony radio awards will be hosted by Evans at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 11 May.
