Limited edition vinyls by the the Stooges and MC5 will be sold |
British independent record shops are to release a limited collection of records by bands like The Smiths and New Order. More than 50 shops in places like Preston, Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds, are holding events to celebrate World Record Store Day. The global event is to mark the role of independent shops in local communities. On 18 April, stores will have fewer than 500 copies each of rarities like Tom Waits Live from the Glitter & Doom Tour 2008 on 7-inch vinyl. Grunge band Sonic Youth and solo artist Beck have each covered a track by the other and it will be sold as a double A-side. Independent label Domino Records, home to bands like Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys, have also produced a compilation of unreleased material.
