MIA's baby date on Grammy night

MIA said she is "planning a home birth, but it might be a Grammy birth"

The Grammy Awards have added nominee MIA to the line-up of performers for Sunday's awards show - despite her baby being due the same day.

MIA is expected to guest with TI, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne on Swagga Like Us, which samples her hit Paper Planes and is contention for record of the year.

The artist is expecting her first child with fiancee Benjamin Brewer.

Speaking of the potential award win and baby arrival on her website, MIA said: "Either way I figured I'll win!"

The artist had always planned to go along to the ceremony to be in the audience.

But before being named to the performers' line-up she told the Wall Street Journal: "Eating a hot curry could make me go into labour, so imagine what getting on stage with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and TI would do?"

The musician is also nominated for an Oscar for her song O Saya, which features in Slumdog Millionaire.

Traditionally the nominees perform their songs live at the ceremony, but Oscar night is on 22 February - just two weeks after MIA's due date.
