Slumdog Millionaire has risen to the top of the UK box office on a wave of award wins and critical acclaim. The film, from director Danny Boyle, tells the story of a boy from Mumbai who goes on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Up from number two, it beat Will Smith's Seven Pounds to the top spot. Last week's number one, Role Models, slipped to number three, while the horror remake My Bloody Valentine entered the chart at four. Slumdog Millionaire has been the toast of award ceremonies in the US and UK, winning best film at the Golden Globes and picking up 11 Bafta nominations. It took �2.6m at the box office over the weekend, taking its total to �5.9m. Another big winner at the Golden Globes was Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, which opened in the UK chart at number eight.
