Festive comedy tops US box office

Reese Witherspoon stars in Four Christmases

Comedy Four Christmases got movie-goers into the festive spirit early as it topped the US box office over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The film, starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, opened last Wednesday to take advantage of the holiday period, taking $46.7m (�31.3).

Last week's number one, Twilight, fell to three, while animated Disney comedy Bolt pushed up one place to number two.

James Bond film Quantum of Solace was at number four.

The other big new release of the weekend was Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

Costing a reported $120m (�78m) to make, it has taken $20m �13.1m) since its debut on Wednesday.

Figures for Bolt and Twilight were so close - Bolt took $26.6m (�13.4m) and Twilight $26.4m (�13.5m) - that their chart positions may change when final figures are tallied on Monday.
