The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 will launch High Definition (HD) TV channels on Freeview next year for the first time, media watchdog Ofcom has revealed. It said ITV would air peak-time shows and Channel 4 would have a full version of the channel in HD, while the BBC has yet to outline plans. Viewers will need an HD-ready TV and a new set-top box to watch services, due to roll out between late 2009 and 2012. HD services are already available via satellite and cable.
