Dame Helen Mirren is returning to tread the boards at the National Theatre, it has been announced. The 63-year-old Oscar winner will play the title role in Jean Racine's Phedre, as a woman in love with her stepson. The actress will appear on stage next June, directed by Nicholas Hytner, the National's artistic director. Dame Helen last performed at the London venue in 2003, when she received rave reviews for her turn in Eugene O'Neill's Mourning Becomes Electra.
