Allen blames EMI for album delay

Lily Allen has blamed changes at her record company, EMI, for the delay in releasing her second album.

Writing on her blog, the singer said her album had "been finished for a while now" and admitted she did not "really know what's going on with it".

Nearly 2,000 jobs were lost after EMI was bought by private equity firm Terra Firma for �3.2bn last year.

Allen said she hoped the new album would be out soon. Her debut, Alright, Still, was released in July 2006.

"The record industry is a very political place at the moment," Allen wrote on her website.

"Lots of people have been fired or have taken redundancy recently as the company [EMI] was taken over.

"Many of these people were people assigned to my projects and now I don't quite know what's going on.

"I'm sure everyone will find their feet soon enough and I'll be able to put the album out soon."

Alright, Still has sold more than 1.8m copies in the UK and spawned hit singles including Smile and LDN.

A spokesperson for EMI was not immediately available at the time of writing.
