The Osbournes have been regular faces on TV since 2002 |
The Osbourne family are making a return to US television with a variety series, according to a report. Sharon, Ozzy and their children Jack and Kelly will host the six part show, which will feature music and comedy sketches, says Daily Variety. The Fox network has commissioned the programme and plans to launch it with a Christmas special. The Osbournes' MTV reality show ran for three years until 2005, while they presented this year's Brit Awards. Mike Darnell, Fox's head of alternative programming, said the show was intended to make the concept of the variety show "feel new". Sibling rivalry Other elements for the show under discussion include a gameshow slot, audience participation and pre-recorded location items. Eugene Young, an executive producer with the show's makers Fremantle, told Variety it would "tap into what the Osbournes do best, which is be themselves". He said Ozzy might be shown "skewering pop culture", while the sibling rivalry between Jack and Kelly would become a feature of some of the sketches. Celebrity TV variety shows that were popular in the US during the 1970s included those fronted by Sonny and Cher and Donnie and Marie Osmond. The Osbournes have become UK TV regulars, with Sharon Osbourne appearing as a judge on The X Factor. She also sits on the panel of America's Got Talent. Her son Jack has his own UK series called Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie.
