Five songs from Lil' Wayne's album feature in the US top 200 |
"Dirty south" rap star Lil' Wayne is set to go straight to number one in the US album charts, after selling 423,000 copies of his record in just one day. Early figures put the Louisiana rapper on target to have the biggest sales week of the year in the States. The record is currently held by Mariah Carey, whose E=MC2 album sold 463,000 copies in April. Tha Carter III is Lil' Wayne's sixth release. Lead single Lollipop has already spent five weeks at number one. It is also the rapper's first hit single in the UK - where he is probably best known for his cameo on the Destiny's Child single Soldier. The first day sales figures are based on information from nine of America's biggest music retailers, including Best Buy, Borders and iTunes. Other new entries set for the album chart include Coldplay's Viva La Vida, N.E.R.D.'s Seeing Sounds and Alanis Morisette's Flavors of Entanglement, according to Billboard magazine.
